Schedule of Events:

6:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. | Registration & Networking

7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. | Arnie Harchik - Editing FETCH

Arnie Harchik is the Senior Editor on the PBS Children's Series "FETCH! with Ruff Ruffman." In April of 2005 PBS requested a new kids' reality game show that integrated live action with animation. Without the benefit of a pilot, the Children’s Programming staff at WGBH produced 20 episodes that went on to receive rave reviews.

Arnie discussed the editing workflow that took place over those many months. There were creative challenges as editors had to come up with a look for the show as well as many technical issues including mixing DV footage with Flash animation.

"FETCH! with Ruff Ruffman" is now in its 2nd season of production. Info can be found at http://www.pbskids.org/fetch

Arnie Harchik has been editing in the greater Boston market for 20 years. He's been on Avid systems since 1995. His resume includes work for FRONTLINE, NOVA, and GREATER BOSTON ARTS. He has received 4 Emmy nominations for "Outstanding Achievement in Editing" for his work on the PBSKids series ZOOM. He recently earned a PROMAX Gold Award for the preview reel of "FETCH! with Ruff Ruffman."

As Senior Editor on "FETCH with Ruff Ruffman" Arnie helped create the look and feel of the series. He is responsible for cutting studio and field segments of the show, integrating graphics and music and finally onlining the entire series.

8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. | 24p and What It Means to Me

A Practical discussion of what to consider when editing 24p, followed up by a brief overview of file based camera systems.

Most of us have heard about 24p for many years now. Many of us have a general understanding of why it is popular. But for lots of us knowing exactly when and how to edit in 24p is still a bit mysterious. What is the best way to start a project? What will the deliverable be? Am I actually editing progressive or interlaced? These are just a few questions that we will try to answer. We will discuss the practical aspects of what to do when someone hands you some tapes and says "I shot this in 24p, here you go?" Also, we will offer a glimpse of File Based Production and Post using new technologies like XDCAM HD and P2.
